Red Sox Game 20 reaction: Bad pitcher bad. Good offense better.

Highest WPA: Pablo Sandoval, .240 (2-2, HR, 3 RBI)
Lowest WPA: Joe Kelly, -.235 (6 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 10 K, 3 BB, HR)

Joe Kelly, who is bad, was bad! Still, somehow, this is surprising to some people! He has literally never been good, but he throws hard, so media people are constantly stunned when he pitches badly, even though he does it all the time. It’s amazing.

Fortunately, tonight he was only bad, as opposed to Godawful, so the offense and bullpen were able to keep things close and ultimately win it. Insomuch as the Red Sox had a legitimate plan coming into 2015, this was it. Me, I’d rather go with the plan where we have a good offense AND a good rotation, but for tonight, at least, I can’t complain.

ALLEN CRAIG WATCH: I lied. I can totally complain. When Craig came up in the 8th with two go-ahead runners on base, this happened:

After going 0-2 upon replacing Pablo Sandoval (please don’t be hurt, Panda), Craig now totes a .121/.194/.121 batting line. He is under contract through 2017.
