Red Sox Game 14 Recap: Rene Rivera was the designated hitter

Highest WPA: Wade Miley, .232 (5 2/3 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 3 K, 88 pitches)
Lowest WPA: Brock “Beatrice” Holt, -.089 (0-3)

Rene Rivera was the designated hitter.

Yes, that one. The career backup catcher.

No, he has not suddenly gotten good. And no, the Rays haven’t hit that poorly in the young season; Rivera ranks 11th among qualified hitters on their roster in OPS.

Yeah, fine, David DeJesus and Allan Dykstra are lefties and would probably have struggled against Wade Miley.

Even so. Rene Rivera was the designated hitter.

I refuse to believe there is anything more interesting or meaningful to be gleaned from this game.

Requisite Shane Victorino Watch Because Goog Lets Me Stay Here: 1-4 with as many strikeouts as total bases (2). I miss when Rusney Castillo was healthy.
