Red Sox Game 13 recap: Not quite a marathon

Highest WPA: Mookie Betts, .135 (1-4, 2 R)
Lowest WPA: David Ortiz, -.071 (0-2, RBI, BB, 4 LOB)

Topical title is topical. Morning baseball is a beautiful thing, even when it’s cold and rainy and the trash heap formerly known as Justin Masterson is pitching. But hey, the Red Sox managed to take the lead and get the game official, then John Farrell managed like it was a seven-inning game and was rewarded for it.

If nothing else, it was good to see Ryan Lavarnway again. Seeing how he turned out, it’s good to know that the Red Sox have learned not to hoard their unpolished catching prospects who “can definitely hit” and just need to learn the position.

ALLEN CRAIG WATCH: He got a hit! And he walked! He still sucks, though.

SHANE VICTORINO WATCH: He sucks, too, and I’m doubling down on the “watch these bad players be bad” watches, because I can. Shane went 0-3 with a K.
