Red Sox Game 3 Recap: Well, that was easy

Highest WPA: Xander Bogaerts, .190 (3-4, 3B, 3 RBI, BB)
Lowest WPA: Mookie Betts, -.056 (1-5, 3 LOB)

Good teams playing up to their ability against bad teams are fun to watch. Grinding and waiting out bad pitches, blooping in bases-clearing triples when beleaguered starters are forced to throw strikes, getting your own pitcher in on the RBI action, witnessing Ryan Howard’s complete defensive futility… yeah, that’s fun.

Less fun? The game turning largely uneventful after a brief scare by Justin Masterson’s own control issues. Ultimately, the question was less “who will win?” and more a combination of “how does Ruben Amaro have a job?” and “why didn’t we sweep this team of AAA dudes?”

Of course, if it’s competitive drama you crave, the Sox hit the Bronx tomorrow night. I’m guessing the Yankees will put up a bit more of a fight than the Phils mustered tonight.
