Red Sox Game 1 Recap: Well, that went…well.

chart

Highest WPA: Clay Buchholz (pitcher), .291 (7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 9 K, BB)

Lowest WPA: Clay Buchholz (hitter), -.068 (0-3, 4 LOB)

Ummm…yeah, that went exactly like I thought it would. Clay Buchholz is amazing, Cole Hamels is bad and we shouldn’t trade for him, everything’s going to work out just fine. Yeah. Pay no attention to the dozens of tweets I’ll have to delete now.

Really, though, what can we take away from this game? Maybe Mookie Betts is good. Maybe Dustin Pedroia is still good. Maybe Hanley Ramirez is amazing. Maybe Clay Buchholz is back to being really great. Maybe the Phillies have a horrible offense and just a horrible team and their one bright spot had a bad day. Or maybe he lobbed some meatballs in the hope that his trade value would go down and he’d be released from his brotherly hell. Maybe all of those things!
