Red Sox Game 67 Recap: Oh, so the roller coaster’s going up, now.

Highest WPA: Mike Napoli, .223 (2-3, 2B, BB, 2 RBI)
Lowest WPA: Daniel Nava, -.090 (2-4, 2B, RBI, LOB; victim of circumstance, because Ortiz getting gunned down at home counted against him)

Lose ten in a row. Win seven in a row. Lose seven out of nine. And now, look basically unbeatable for a couple of nights. Sure, fine, okay. That makes sense. It certainly isn’t dumb and silly and annoying or anything.

Yes, I did say annoying. Because the Red Sox are still bad. They’re still five games under .500, they’re still running out half of a major league lineup on any given night, they’re still a mile and a half back of the Blue Jays in the East, and they’re still trailing every team in the American League except the Astros and Rays in the Wild Card race.

But nights like tonight, as well as the knowledge that Shane Victorino and Clay Buchholz (and Will Middlebrooks, if you care about injured shitty players too) are rehabbing, as well as the fact that the team a mile and a half ahead of them is the Blue Jays, will combine to have people thinking that maybe, just maybe, the Red Sox are still in this. And hey, maybe they are.

They’re not.
