Red Sox Game 61 Recap: This is all my fault

Highest WPA: Daniel Nava, .107 (3-4, HBP, SB)
Lowest WPA: Jon Lester, -.277 (4.1 IP, 12 H, 5 ER, 0 K, BB, 2 HR)

“I expect him to get bombed now that I’ve said that.” That was me, last night, after expressing something resembling confidence because Jon Lester was pitching today. And, hey, look what happened: He got bombed! And the bullpen got kicked around a bit, too, meaning that a bit of life from the offense was wasted. Stephen Drew got his first hit of the year, which is cool; any offense at all from him before the end of the month is more than we could expect, and more than we would have gotten from Will Middlebrooks.

Daniel Nava was really good, too; if I didn’t know any better, I’d say that his early season struggles were just a bad spell, and that maybe he should have stayed on the roster over the spectacularly busting Jackie Bradley or the festering corpse of Grady Sizemore. But what do I know?

I know that John Lackey starts tomorrow night. And I know that ESPN wishes they hadn’t scheduled so many national games with a boring, shitty team. And I know I’ll probably be back here tomorrow night, talking about another loss. Fuck this season.
