Red Sox Game 50 recap: CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!

Highest WPA: This game is tied! This game is tied! David Ortiz! DAVID ORTIZ! DAVID ORTIZ! .371 (1-3, HR, BB, 4 RBI)
Lowest WPA: Clay Suckholes, -.358 (3 IP, 4 H, 4 K, 8 BB, 6 ER)

I don’t think it would be grandiose Boston fandom narcissism to say OH MY GOD THEY DID IT, THEY FINALLY DID IT, THIS IS HUGE NEWS, OH MY GOD, WHAT A TRIUMPH, NOTHING CAN STOP US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it would, I’d just make an understated comment that there are 112 games left, the Red Sox have a lot of talent and ownership that could open the checkbook if they wanted to, and today was a nice showing of the “work pitch counts, get guys on base, and things happen” offense. That’s cool and fun and an overdue lesson in not writing recaps in the first half of a game. The fact that the team only retook the lead after a long rain delay undermines the “fight with Rays was the turning point” narrative in favor of a “what did Farrell say in the clubhouse!??!” one, but then again, that assumes facts and narratives go together in any way.
