Red Sox Game 28 Recap: This is NOT a cheer-ocracy! I am the cheer-tator, I will make the cheer-cisions around here, and I will deal with the cheer-onsequences!

Highest WPA: Dustin Pedroia, .199 (2-4, BB, R)
Lowest WPA: Jackie Bradley Jr., -.216 (0-4, K, 2 LOB)

The Red Sox may wish that baseball was more of a democracy, at least after game one today. Despite the Rays’ objections, the Sox invoked their power to unilaterally decide when to make up last night’s rainout, and they decided to do it today to take advantage of a tired, injury-hampered Rays’ squad. That decision didn’t pay off this afternoon, because the bats couldn’t back up another pretty darn good outing by Jake Peavy.

People will whine about replay, and they’ll whine about Peavy walking in a run; meanwhile, I’ll be here whining about Jackie Bradley still getting plate appearances, AJ Pierzynski pinch-hitting for David Ross, Jonny Gomes facing righties, and all the other stuff that actually contributes to losses.

That sucks, but is hardly news at this point. Fortunately, there’s another game tonight, and hopefully the offense wakes up for that one. It’s not particularly likely, because they’re tired and will be facing a much better pitcher, but, you know, hopefully.
