Red Sox Game 6 Recap: Bats are sleeping

Highest WPA: Jonathan Herrera, .010 (1-3)
Lowest WPA: Daniel Nava, -.077 (1-4)

When you only start five decent hitters, there are going to be days like this. At full strength, this lineup would feature Grady Sizemore, Shane Victorino, and Will Middlebrooks; at least two of those are definitely better hitters than the guys who played in their place, and Middlebrooks at least can hit for power every now and then. Mike Carp wasting away on the bench while Jonny Gomes flails at righthanded offerings is at least nothing new, but it’s no less frustrating.

Jon Lester pitched well, which is encouraging, but with no offense and poor defense behind him, there wasn’t much that he could do. Edward Mujica sucked, but Edward Mujica sucks, so it’s hard to call that a surprise. But hey, after being swept by the powerhouse Brewers, it’s nice to have the lowly Texas Rangers coming in to town.
