Red Sox Game 150 recap: Complaints department

Highest WPA: Jon Lester, .296 (8 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K, ER)
Lowest WPA: Dustin Pedroia, -.066 (1-5, R, 2 LOB)

I’ve been pretty hard on Lester this year, but he’s looked fantastic at the right time of year. In lieu of criticizing a one-time ace just being a solid guy I wouldn’t hate in a Game One (though Clay Buchholz would have reason to be pissed in such a scenario), a few things I WILL whine about today:

  • Too little baseball: A Yankees/Red Sox game went less than 3 hours? Boston took a comfortable lead in the third (or the second, if you’re feeling really confident) and didn’t look back? WHERE’S MY ENTERTAINMENT VALUE, DAMMIT?! (Also, the Fox blackout means a 1-run A’s/Rangers game is not a viewing option.)
  • Ken Rosenthal’s bullpen analysis: The goofily-attired-but-usually-inoffensive-by-baseball-journalism-standards Rosenthal mentioned Alfredo Aceves and Joel Hanrahan as reasons the Sox were optimistic about the bullpen early, and Junichi Tazawa as a reason the setup guys are a question mark. Yeeaaaaaaahhh, no.
  • “Dads” looks awful: Apparently Fox has decided to market its new sitcom by saying how offensive critics find it, but from the amount they’re using that clip of Seth Green pantomiming decapitating his father, it just looks like the least funny thing the network offers. And I say this as a person who finds New Girl so insufferable that Zooey Deschanel has become almost unattractive.
  • This is a family-friendly blog: At least when we’re not cursing up a fucking storm and encouraging professional athletes to resolve their differences violently for my amoral amusement. But it was rather tough to find a not-NSFW image for magic number Six.

Yeah, that was a shitty list. I’d say I wish games were more exciting, but as I’ve said, when you’re this close to a playoff spot – maybe the top playoff spot – there’s no reason to want drama. Let’s get to October and then we can get back to second-guessing and criticizing and bullshit-narrative-izing.

I would say something about Brenda Song in a Sailor Moon costume, but apparently this is a family-friendly blog. When did that happen?

You’re right; I take it back, clearly Dads is the funniest comedy of the decade.
