Red Sox Game 124 preview: Andy: Due? Fraying?

That was horrible. I apologize. But Andy Pettitte hasn’t been so hot of late (just 7 IP over his last two starts), and hopefully the Red Sox can take advantage of that tonight.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .296/.357/.426 (.343 wOBA)
2. RF Shane Victorino – .280/.332/.403 (.324)
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .293/.374/.405 (.344)
4. DH David Ortiz – .324/.405/.580 (.413)
5. LF Jonny Gomes – .238/.342/.432 (.338)
6. SS Stephen Drew – .248/.332/.426 (.332)
7. 1B Mike Napoli – .245/.335/.436 (.338)
8. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .267/.336/.453 (.343)
9. 3B Will Middlebrooks – .208/.250/.398 (.281)

SP Felix Doubront – 128 IP, 115 K, 55 BB, 8 HR; 3.66 ERA (115 ERA+)
3.44 FIP, 3.91 xFIP, 4.02 tERA, 4.07 SIERA

The Yankees’ offense has been Godawful most of the year, but they’ve gotten some reinforcements over the past few weeks (including Mark Reynolds, who does everything Will Middlebrooks can do except better), and a lineup with righthanded power taking on Felix Doubront in Fenway Park seems like a recipe for potential disaster. Fortunately, Andy Pettitte is also a lefty, and that big left field wall just made Dustin Pedroia a whole ton of money. Hopefully he remembers that.
