Red Sox Game 102 recap: Please be a sign of things to come

Highest WPA: Junichi Tazawa, .192 (1.1 IP, 3 K, shoulder didn’t fly off and kill anyone)
Lowest WPA: Jose Iglesias, -.064 (1-4, 2 RBI, 4 LOB)

After Jon Lester got pushed back before this start, you had to wonder if maybe there was something wrong with him physically, and maybe there is. But tonight, maybe because of the rest or maybe because of renewed focus after the All-Star break or maybe just because he’s still a really good pitcher, he looked pretty much like Jon Lester. He made a couple of mistakes to the Rays’ only two really dangerous hitters, and paid for them, but for the most part he was really good at a time when the Red Sox really needed it. Hopefully Felix Doubront can match him tomorrow, but I sort of doubt it.

IGLESIAN REGRESSION WATCH: Jose Iglesias went 1-4 with one of the weirdest two-run singles you’ll ever see, lowering his on-base percentage for the 14th consecutive game.
