Red Sox Game 90 preview: John Lackey vs. Jered Weaver is not a huge pitching matchup

Sorry. It just isn’t. Even if it is on Sunday Night Baseball.

8. 3B Brock Holt – .000/.000/.000 (.000)
9. SS Jose Iglesias – .403/.455/.517 (.423)

  • This is a couple of days old, but I feel the need to point out that the Stephen Drew DL Watch came to an end, predictably, with Stephen Drew going on the DL. It was retroactive to June 29; sadly, the decision to cut Clayton Mortensen loose cannot be undone, so the fact that he almost certainly would have done better than Alex Wilson did last night is meaningless.
  • Of course, Alex Wilson isn’t even the worst pitcher on the roster; after all, Jose De La Torre is a thing.
  • Also a thing: Alfredo Aceves, who is up because Andrew Miller’s gone on the DL and the Sox don’t have another competent lefty. His presence makes the team better, if only because it means that JDLT is that much less likely to throw a meaningful pitch.
  • In another case of one guy’s absence making the team better, Shane Victorino is hurt again, so Mike Carp gets to play! Hooray!
