Red Sox Game 68 preview: Nomar comin’

Would have been a fantastic headline for a series in Baltimore ten years ago. Way to be relevant, Goog.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .283/.355/.391 (.330 wOBA)
2. RF Shane Victorino – .282/.340/.359 (.312)
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .327/.412/.450 (.377)
4. DH David Ortiz – .309/.394/.608 (.418)
5. 1B Mike Napoli – .259/.344/.461 (.348)
6. LF Daniel Nava – .299/.391/.479 (.375)
7. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .278/.342/.511 (.368)
8. 3B Will Middlebrooks – .196/.231/.391 (.267)
9. SS Stephen Drew – .223/.318/.386 (.309)

SP Felix Doubront – 61.1 IP, 63 K, 31 BB, 5 HR; 4.84 ERA (89 ERA+)
3.64 FIP, 3.64 xFIP, 4.66 tERA, 3.89 SIERA

Bullet points, for lack of a coherent thought:

  • With Drew in a slump and Middlebrooks lost in the wilderness, it’s becoming a pleasant surprise not to see Iglesias in the lineup every day.
  • I am a big fan of the “fuck you I’m stealing second every time I get on base because I can” version of Jacoby Ellsbury.
  • Mike Napoli can start hitting again aaaaany time now.
  • I think my new smell-test for evaluating an advanced stat should be “does this stat make Felix Doubront look good?” If it does, the stat is probably bullshit.
