Red Sox Game 55 preview: Franklin, my dear…

…I don’t give a damn that you’re healthy; you shouldn’t be starting. Ever.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .260/.325/.366 (.305 wOBA)
2. RF Daniel Nava – .288/.393/.474 (.373)
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .332/.419/.442 (.379)
4. 1B David Ortiz – .333/.395/.598 (.417)
5. LF Mike Carp – .267/.313/.600 (.383)
6. SS Stephen Drew – .224/.331/.381 (.314)
7. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .252/.331/.444 (.339)
8. 3B Jose Iglesias – .421/.452/.526 (.423)
9. P Franklin Morales – .267/.290/.267 (career, 33 PA)

SP Franklin Morales – A bad starting pitcher; that’s all you need to know

But of course, they’re still the Phillies, and they still can’t hit, so it’s entirely possible that Morales looks decent or even good for four or five innings before he hits his pitch limit and gets pulled. Which will lead to him getting another start, probably against a competent offense, and that will not end well. But then he’ll get another start–because he looked so good in his first outing!–and that will also not end well. And then, hopefully, maybe, that will be the end of it, and he’ll go back to the bullpen.

Or he’ll just be Daniel Bard. That’s possible, too. (He hasn’t pitched since May 15. In the two appearances prior to that, he walked nine batters and threw four wild pitches in a combined total of an inning and two thirds.)
