Red Sox Game 52 preview: You can’t see me!

Because both teams are going to wear camo, you see. By the way, how does covering each team in garb worn by modern soldiers honor the sacrifices of those who died defending the country, almost all of whom didn’t wear camo at all? If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that these stupid camo caps and jerseys were more about commercializing patriotism than actually honoring sacrifice…

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .249/.319/.338 (.293 wOBA)
2. RF Daniel Nava – .299/.404/.479 (.380)
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .333/.424/.434 (.379)
4. DH David Ortiz – .341/.401/.618 (.428)
5. 1B Mike Napoli – .257/.336/.471 (.349)
6. SS Stephen Drew – .222/.317/.389 (.309)
7. LF Mike Carp – .288/.339/.654 (.416)
8. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .252/.336/.457 (.346)
9. 3B Jose Iglesias – .464/.500/.571 (.461)

SP Alfredo Aceves – 18.2 IP, 15 K, 12 BB, 6 HR; 8.20 ERA (55 ERA+)
7.56 FIP, 5.06 xFIP, 8.48 tERA, 5.03 SIERA

Depending on the stat you choose, Aceves has either been a very bad pitcher this year, or a remarkably bad pitcher. The Phillies’ offense has been no great shakes–they’re 28th in the majors in wOBA, leading only the Nationals and Marlins–but it’s still hard to see Ace turning in anything close to a quality performance.

Note how I said quality performance instead of quality start; if he gives up seven straight homers after a two-out error before getting out of the sixth inning, I don’t want to have to owe Sportspun another Femto.

Having not yet seen it in practice, I’ve got to say that I like the concept of these “home-and-home” interleague series; we’ll see how I feel about them after having to watch David Ortiz play first, Jon Lester hit, and Mike Napoli sit on the bench.
