Red Sox Game 48 recap: Hot, steaming Demp

Highest WPA: David Ortiz, .135 (1-3, HR, 3 RBI)
Lowest WPA: Ryan Dempster, -.209 (3 IP, 5 H, 4 K, 4 BB, 4 ER)

Well, that was terrible. Ryan Dempster sucked, Clay Mortensen and Alex Wilson sucked worse, Brian Butterfield looked like a moron, Mike Carp kept falling back to earth, Jacoby Ellsbury reminded us that he can strike out as well as ground out, and as usual, and the left side of the infield came up with a big fat back-spasming nothing.

I suppose the Red Sox – or at least ownership and the Boston media – deserved to be humiliated at the hands of Terry Francona, but of course, it changes nothing of the malfeasance that led to and followed his departure. Tito’s still stuck in a drab shell of a city working with Nick Swisher, Trevor Bauer, and Brett Myers; Daniel Bard is still broken; Boston still has one good outfielder and his name is Daniel Nava; and… John Lackey is still starting tomorrow.
