Red Sox Game 37 preview: Sunny day

Let’s ignore the fact that it’s currently gray and dreary. It’s going to be a very sunny day at Fenway this afternoon. Clay had better lather his arm up real good with that sunscreen; we wouldn’t want him getting burned, after all.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .261/.318/.363
2. RF Shane Victorino – .310/.375/.400
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .324/.420/.396
4. DH David Ortiz – .338/.377/.634
5. 1B Mike Napoli – .261/.318/.514
6. LF Jonny Gomes – .211/.361/.368
7. 3B Will Middlebrooks – .203/.237/.398
8. SS Stephen Drew – .233/.309/.372
9. C David Ross – .220/.319/.537

SP Clay Buchholz – 50.2 IP, 56 K, 18 BB, 1 HR; 1.60 ERA, 2.10 FIP, 2.96 xFIP

The big news of the day is that Joel Hanrahan will have season-ending surgery. His final line with the Red Sox: 7.1 IP, 5 K, 6 BB, 4 HR; 9.82 ERA, 11.17 FIP, 6.85 xFIP.

Mark Melancon’s line with the Pirates this year: 18 IP, 18 K, 0 BB, 1 HR; 0.50 ERA, 1.71 FIP, 1.47 xFIP

We haven’t seen an idea this obviously stupid work out this obviously terribly since…what, Jackie Bradley? Daniel Bardasastarter? Bobby Valentine? Does “everything Larry Lucchino says, does, or thinks” count as a single idea?
