Red Sox Game 34 preview: He’s here (again)!

The closest thing to an actually redeemable baseball player from the terrible Soxpocalypse trade is finally here (again)! For one start (again). And then he’s gone again (again).

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .278/.329/.389
2. RF Shane Victorino – .284/.347/.341
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .299/.399/.370
4. DH David Ortiz – .414/.444/.776
5. 1B Mike Napoli – .260/.317/.527
6. LF Jonny Gomes – .208/.373/.321
7. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .241/.323/.470
8. SS Stephen Drew – .230/.318/.392
9. 3B Pedro Ciriaco – .240/.333/.360

SP Allen Webster – 6 IP, 5 K, 1 BB, 2 HR; 3.00 ERA, 6.66 FIP, 4.27 xFIP (MLB)
20 IP, 26 K, 6 BB, 1 HR; 2.70 ERA, 2.45 FIP (AAA)

Pedro Hernandez is, apparently, a lefty, and we gave Jonny Gomes $10 million to hit lefties, and we gave Shane Victorino $39 million to suck at a bunch of things and also hit lefties, so Daniel Nava’s SOL. Maybe in some alternate universe where Mike Napoli didn’t have rotting hips, I’d say that he should catch for a night so that Nava could play first base. But he does, so…yeah. Let’s just hope that nobody in the infield gets hurt, and that if Victorino or Gomes comes up against a righty Farrell’s smart enough to hit for them.
