Red Sox Game 29 preview: Oh look who’s back

If the Red Sox lose this game, I hope sportswriters correctly blame the injection of Shane Victorino for ruining the chemistry of the lineup. Or Felix Doubront for being garbage.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .279/.333/.402
2. RF Shane Victorino – .292/.358/.319
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .315/.417/.370
4. DH David Ortiz – .487/.512/.897
5. 1B Mike Napoli – .283/.336/.593
6. LF Jonny Gomes – .207/.377/.333
7. 3B Will Middlebrooks – .198/.239/.406
8. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .232/.321/.435
9. SS Pedro Ciriaco – .222/.348/.389

SP Felix Doubront – 23.1 IP, 29 K, 13 BB, 1 HR; 4.24 ERA, 2.89 FIP, 3.31 xFIP

  • Seriously, though, I fully expect Victorino to be garbage this series. Both because he is garbage, and because he’s just been sitting on the bench and hasn’t seen live pitching in over a week. I can’t imagine that typically works out well.
  • Gomes and Saltalamacchia still shouldn’t be in the same lineup together; does John Farrell think David Ross will break if he plays in three straight games?
  • Despite their lines thus far this season, I will reluctantly admit that Gomes is probably a better hitter than Nava against lefties. Of course, Nava should still be in the lineup, because Victorino should be on the DL.
  • If Space doesn’t do a “since his injury, Shane Victorino’s batting line is…” tracker for at least the period of time he would have missed to go on the 15-day DL, I might throw him off the blog. I just might.
