Red Sox Game 26 recap: Dingers! Dingers! Dingers!

This is a wonderful way to jump-start some regression for both teams.

Highest WPA: David Ortiz, .304 (2-5, HR, 2B, 4 RBI)
Lowest WPA: Junichi Tazawa, -.372 (IP, H, 2 ER, BB, 2 K, HR)

Honorable mention for this one goes to Jarrod Saltalamacchia; though he walked twice, he also stupidly threw a ball away that let two runs score, and wasn’t pinch run for in the 8th inning and then got thrown out on a play that Pedro Ciriaco (or the still-absent Shane Victorino) almost certainly beats. But really, when you score seven runs, you should win. Lester wasn’t quite as bad as his line looks, but he certainly wasn’t very good, and Tazawa just made a bad pitch to a great hitter and got punished for it. Those things happen.

Joel Hanrahan is back, too, and right back to being bad. Mark Melancon’s season line: 14 IP, 12 K, 0 BB, 1 HR; 0.64 ERA, 2.21 FIP, 1.77 xFIP. Just, you know, for the record.
