Red Sox Game 23 preview: It’s still only the Astros

For the record: Pitching well against the Astros will only technically count as Ryan Dempster pitching well against the American League.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .281/.330/.438
2. LF Jonny Gomes – .188/.381/.250
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .301/.408/.337
4. DH David Ortiz – .550/.571/.850
5. 1B Mike Napoli – .273/.326/.557
6. RF Daniel Nava – .310/.425/.552
7. 3B Will Middlebrooks – .169/.195/.386
8. C David Ross – .120/.154/.240
9. SS Pedro Ciriaco – .143/.316/.214

SP Ryan Dempster – 24 IP, 33 K, 11 BB, 4 HR; 3.38 ERA, 3.79 FIP, 2.88 xFIP

  • John Farrell is so committed to the “no power in the 3-spot ever” plan that he’ll bat Jonny Gomes second. Wow.
  • At least until Drew stops struggling against righties, I have zero problem with Ciriaco starting against a lefthander.
  • We’re still a few days out from “You should have just put Victorino on the DL” territory, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we get there.
