Red Sox Game 22 preview: Selig’s latest goof

I actually like, at least in theory, the fact that there’s always at least one interleague series. It feels more fun than stopping the flow of the season to suddenly mix things up. I also very much like the thought that the Red Sox get to play the Astros every year.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .286/.337/.440
2. RF Daniel Nava – .327/.426/.582
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .300/.404/.338
4. DH David Ortiz – .500/.529/.688
5. 1B Mike Napoli – .274/.330/.560
6. LF Mike Carp – .417/.462/.833
7. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .218/.285/.455
8. 3B Will Middlebrooks – .165/.193/.380
9. SS Stephen Drew – .128/.227/.205

SP Clay Buchholz – 30 IP, 29 K, 11 BB, 1 HR; 0.90 ERA, 2.61 FIP, 3.19 xFIP

Of course, with playing the Astros comes the caveat “It’s the only the Astros.” Keep that in mind for these next four games. If Dustin Pedroia remembers how to hit for power, or Jacoby Ellsbury remembers how to walk, or Will Middlebrooks remembers which end of the bat to hold…it’s only the Astros.

(If Mike Carp hits six homers in four games, however, that’s totally real.)
