Red Sox Game 15 preview: What does a guy have to do?

Seriously, now. What the fuck does Mike Carp have to do to get in the lineup on a regular basis?

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .277/.299/.446
2. RF Shane Victorino – .333/.403/.352
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .313/.413/.352
4. 1B Mike Napoli – .250/.262/.467
5. LF Daniel Nava – .324/.429/.618
6. DH Jonny Gomes – .190/.433/.238
7. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .229/.325/.486
8. SS Stephen Drew – .105/.261/.158
9. 3B Pedro Ciriaco – .250/.364/.375

SP Jon Lester – 19 IP, 18 K, 3 BB, 0 HR; 1.42 ERA, 1.82 FIP, 2.90 xFIP

Dude goes three for three with two doubles and a triple, and the next day John Farrell goes “Well, Mike, you see, we paid Jonny more than you, so we need him to be in the lineup so the front office doesn’t look like drooling morons.”

(Speaking of looking like drooling morons: Jackie Bradley still isn’t playing, still isn’t ready for the big leagues, and still never should have made the team out of spring training.)

I guess I’m also supposed to be upset about Ciriaco being in the lineup, but I really can’t muster that much fervor over it. Will Middlebrooks is like 2 for his last 20 or whatever, and sometimes guys just need a day off to cool their heads and get back in the right frame of mind. I’ll save my venom for tomorrow, if Pedro’s in the lineup again.
