Red Sox Game 9 preview: Another day, another horrible closer idea

This one’s on the mound ruining the team’s chances at the start of the game, which is an improvement. I guess.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .270/.308/.514
2. RF Shane Victorino – .313/.361/.344
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .323/.432/.355
4. 1B Mike Napoli – .176/.200/.412
5. 3B Will Middlebrooks – .250/.294/.688
6. DH Daniel Nava – .467/.571/1.133
7. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .300/.417/.600
8. SS Stephen Drew – .000/.000/.000
9. LF Jackie Bradley, Jr. – .130/.333/.174

SP Alfredo Aceves – 4.1 IP, 5 K, 2 BB, 2 HR; 10.38 ERA, 8.19 FIP, 3.96 xFIP

More bullet points!

  • Victorino still shouldn’t be batting second against righties, despite his empty, BABIP-driven .368 average against them this year.
  • Bradley still shouldn’t be in the lineup at all. Mike Carp has two plate appearances this year; why not put Nava in left, have Carp DH, and at least see what we have in him for the week or so before Ortiz gets back?
  • It’s a joke that Aceves is making a start for this team, not even ten games into the season, after what happened last year.
  • Then again, it was a joke that the front office actually thought Lester-Buchholz-Dempster-Doubront-Lackey would be a decent rotation to begin with, soooo…

We’re going to find out whether the universe is more interested in screwing with the Red Sox or with us tonight when Alfredo tosses a no-hitter.

  1. No trackbacks yet.
