Red Sox Game 8 Preview: Dempster fire

Stephen Drew is here! He shall save us from our…um…1.026 OPS shortstop…

Look, he’s better than Iglesias, okay? Trust me.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury – .273/.314/.485
2. RF Shane Victorino – .345/.406/.379
3. 2B Dustin Pedroia – .357/.455/.393
4. 1B Mike Napoli – .194/.194/.452
5. 3B Will Middlebrooks – .286/.333/.786
6. DH Daniel Nava – .500/.588/1.083
7. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia – .188/.350/.250
8. SS Stephen Drew – .223/.309/.348 (2012)
9. LF Jackie Bradley, Jr. – .143/.333/.190

SP Ryan Dempster – 5 IP, 8 K, 4 BB, 1 HR; 5.40 ERA, 4.92 FIP, 3.86 xFIP

Last I checked, Jake Arrieta wasn’t lefthanded, so I guess we’re just batting Victorino second whenever. I guess that’s fine; it’s not like Nava has a 1.600 OPS or anything. I also laugh at the continued insistence that Jackie Bradley really is a Major League-caliber hitter right now. Plus, on a final note, the 7-1 spots are essentially four straight lefthanded hitters, and the 2-5 are essentially four straight righties. Is this really the most optimal distribution? (It is not.)

To be fair, Middlebrooks doesn’t have much of a split, so it’s not like he’s gonna get killed by a ROOGY. Of course, even that detail is mitigated by the fact he’s at the end of the stretch of righties, not in the middle…
