Ryan Westmoreland retires.

In excellent Red Sox farm system news, Ryan Westmoreland announced his retirement today after two brain surgeries and nearly three seasons on the shelf. At only 22 years old, Westmoreland said he was through with professional baseball as a player and thanked his family and the Red Sox for their support through his difficulties. Its sad to see him go, losing his career at such an incredibly young age. He’d carried some fairly hefty expectations with him since he debuted with the Lowell Spinners in 2009, but obviously won’t be able to live up to them now. It’s for the best of course. If he really feels that he’s done then he should do what’s right. So good luck, Ryan.

At press time, Jackie Bradley Jr. could not be reached for comment because he was dead.
