Koji-to ergo sum

Without knowing how much money the deal is for, it’s hard to say HOW good it is, but the Red Sox’ signing of former Rangers reliever Koji Uehara is definitely good news. Uehara has been a fantastic reliever since transitioning to the bullpen in 2010, posting over 10 K/9 each of the last three years without walking even one a half batters per nine innings.

With Andrew Bailey closing, Uehara in front of him, and the possibility of a breakout year for Junichi Tazawa (not to mention the nonzero chance that Daniel Bard isn’t totally broken), the Red Sox seem poised to have a very good bullpen in 2013. Now they just need starters and a couple bats and…well, everything that isn’t a bullpen, really.

EDIT: We now know the pricetag: $4.25 million. Totally worth it, unless his shoulder flies out of its socket and blinds Will Middlebrooks or something.
