Yankees/Orioles Game 3 recap: Umm…

LOLrioles Magic.

Highest WPA: Raul Ibanez, .827(!!!)
Lowest WPA: Brian Matusz, -.220

Just for the record, pinch-hitting for one of the best players ever because he’s having a bad week is pretty stupid, even when it works as incredibly as it did tonight. But it did work, much to the chagrin of basically everyone on Earth who isn’t a Yankee fan or a sociopath. Now, barring something ridiculous like ten homers for A-Rod over the next two series, we’re going to get an entire offseason filled with Yankee fans (and, of course, analysts) complaining that Alex has never done well in the postseason. You’d think he didn’t have a career .864 postseason OPS, or that he hadn’t damn-near-singlehandedly carried them to the World Series back in 2009.

Of course, there was baseball played aside from Raul Ibanez’ ridiculousness. Neither team could really get anything going offensively, but once the Yankees tied it you figured it was just a matter of time. As it happened, we only had to wait until Ibanez’ next AB.

I told a Yankee fan friend of mine that I thought the Yankees won the series when they won Game 1; the only chance Baltimore had was if they took both games at home before having to come to the Bronx. Now, they have to win two games in a row–one against CC Sabathia–to continue their improbable run. I don’t see it happening.
