I think we can all agree as Red Sox fans that the only team we hate more than the Red Sox is the Yankees. That’s why tonight’s game is a good opportunity to trip the pinstripes up and allow the Orioles another chance to slip into first place. Or to lose in embarrassing fashion and build up the narrative that we finally beat them on the last day of the season and ruin their shot at a division title. Right? Keep telling yourself that. Scott Podsednik is the DH tonight, so the Sox must be working really hard at narrative-building.

As for the Yankees, after building a 10+ game lead in the division race, they’ve fallen all the way back and have been periodically caught by the Baltimore Orioles, who just split a 4-game series at Oriole Park with them. The O’s haven’t had a season this good since I was 11, which makes helping them out after last season a little easier. Contributing to New York’s recent downfall has been the injuries to corner infielders Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeria, the former being back from a broken wrist and the latter being out with the same calf injury that took him away in the first place. Starter Hiroki Kuroda has carried over the success he had in the NL West and has been a solid pickup who the Red Sox avoided last winter for some godforsaken reason (had to get in more Aaron Cook starts?). Tune in at 7 tonight, for possibly the last relevant Red Sox games anyone’ll see this season!
