Game 137 Recap: The Red Sox win a game!

Highest WPA: Cody Ross, .201
Lowest WPA: Jon Lester, -.093

For once, it was nice to see smiling faces on the field during a Red Sox game. And while it wasn’t because the field was being watered with Bobby Valentine’s blood, the Red Sox had managed to actually win a contest tonight. Better yet, it was a baseball contest, and not a dance-off or a hot-dog eating competition. Making me look somewhat smart for once, the Sox hit two home runs off of Mariners starter Blake Beaven in the sixth. First Cody Ross tied the game with a three-run shot, and then Ryan Lavarnway hit his first of the year to put the team ahead. That one-run lead would have to hold up as both teams failed to score the rest of the way, but in the end, Boston came out on top for the first time in over a week, which was nice to see.  I guess.

That’s the cool thing about meaningless wins: they aren’t losses.
