Game 136 Preview: Holy God this team sucks

John Henry and Ben Cherington flew out to Seattle for today’s game, but they’re apparently on a “fact-finding” mission, rather than firing the manager or just indiscriminately shooting people or anything else that would make the Red Sox better. If he thought he was in any danger of losing his job, though, Bobby V sure isn’t showing it with this lineup:

1. Pedro Ciriaco 3B – .325/.337/.442
2. Jacoby Ellsbury CF – .267/.309/.371
3. Dustin Pedroia 2B – .288/.343/.443
4. Cody Ross RF – .273/.338/.504
5. Mauro Gomez 1B – .304/.355/.429
6. Ryan Lavarnway C – .182/.247/.227
7. Mike Aviles DH – .256/.285/.398
8. Ryan Kalish LF – .202/.244/.238
9. Jose Iglesias SS – .000/.125/.000

SP Clay Buchholz – 152 IP, 101 K, 49 BB, 21 HR; 4.50 ERA, 4.76 FIP, 4.44 xFIP

I suppose credit should be given for batting the three best hitters in the lineup second, third and fourth. Of course, it’s pretty easy to do that when those three guys represent the only players in the lineup who would be worthy of roster spots on a good team. Bobby Valentine isn’t the reason the Red Sox are 11 games under .500, but let’s not pretend that he’s made them better than they could be, alright?
