Game 113 preview: Cleveland rocked?

The Red Sox sit four games back of the Rays and Angels, who themselves are a game and a half behind the A’s, Tigers and Orioles. Only two of those six teams can make the playoffs. Fortunately, only one of them gets to play the Indians tonight.

1. Jacoby Ellsbury CF – .254/.307/.357
2. Carl Crawford LF – .284/.314/.506
3. Dustin Pedroia DH – .270/.326/.408
4. Adrian Gonzalez 1B – .310/.353/.465
5. Cody Ross RF – .277/.345/.534
6. Jarrod Saltalamacchia C – .231/.288/.486
7. Will Middlebrooks 3B – .292/.327/.519
8. Mike Aviles SS – .256/.283/.400
9. Pedro Ciriaco 2B – .333/.341/.469

SP Felix Doubront – 118.1 IP, 115 K, 50 BB, 17 HR, 4.56 ERA, 4.37 FIP, 3.95 xFIP

Calling up a top prospect to ride the bench while Pedro Ciriaco starts seems like a poor decision. Then again, Ryan Lavarnway’s status as a “top prospect” is more an indication of how bad the Red Sox’ farm system is than any real indicator of Lavarnway’s future; “generic bench bat who pretends to catch every once in a while” may well be his calling in life.

I expect Space’s head to explode upon reading that sentence, but…eh.

Jackie Bradley autographed AA program = I’ve got a new prospect-crush now. Lavatory is dead to me.

(Not really, but I’m willing to call him that until he proves my past offense-based optimism valid and hopefully undermines your pessimism about durability.)
