Game 105 preview: The run starts now?

1. Jacoby Ellsbury CF – .274/.337/.368
2. Carl Crawford LF – .244/.306/.356
3. Dustin Pedroia 2B – .265/.319/.407
4. Adrian Gonzalez 1B – .297/.338/.441
5. Cody Ross DH – .264/.334/.523
6. Jarrod Saltalamacchia C – .236/.292/.509
7. Will Middlebrooks 3B – .301/.331/.525
8. Ryan Kalish RF – .217/.238/.250
9. Pedro Ciriaco SS – .348/.357/.449

SP Aaron Cook – 40 IP, 4 K, 4 BB, 6 HR, 4.50 ERA, 5.13 FIP, 4.58 xFIP

Why Kalish starts over Nava is beyond me, but I guess the team is still stubbornly clinging to the notion that he might be a decent player one day. Ciriaco over Aviles again continues to not piss me off; they’re both Godawful hitters, but at least Ciriaco plays good defense. And with Cook on the mound, defense is especially important; either the Tigers are going to hit a lot of balls that the infielders need to get to, or they’re going to hit a lot of balls that nobody’s going to catch.

EDIT: It is no longer beyond me! Nava’s hit the DL with a wrist injury, and Ryan Lavarnway’s up to take his place. Now I get to wonder why Kalish plays instead of him, with Ross moving to the outfield and Lavarnway as the designated hitter. Such a difference!
