Game 102 recap: Well, that was fun, I guess.

Good relief pitchers? In MY bullpen? It's more likely than you think!

Highest WPA: Andrew Miller, .296
Lowest WPA: Dustin Pedroia, -.153

Fun is one word to describe this one, I suppose. There were some classic Bobby V fuck-ups (leaving Doubront in too long, letting Miller face Teixeira and then Jones, having Middlebrooks try to bunt in the 10th), but they were overcome by massive amounts of luck and the amazing continuation of Pedro Ciriaco being the man who can do no wrong, no matter how hard he tries. For his next trick, I expect Ciriaco to poison every Red Sox pitcher, forcing Valentine to start him on the mound, only for Ciriaco to throw a perfect game on a series of increasingly hard-hit balls right at fielders.

So that death march thing that I mentioned six games ago didn’t exactly work out; the Red Sox took three out of the six games against New York and Texas, leaving them frustratingly close to the playoff race as we approach the trading deadline. All the rumors out of Boston say that the Sox are approaching the deadline as sellers, but still there remains the lingering dread that someone stupid and powerful (whose name rhymes with Harry Hucchino) will decide to go for broke. That would be…less than good.

Unless there is actually someone influential in MLB outside the Red Sox organization who believes Jose Iglesias is a valuable asset. That could be hilarious. There really shouldn’t be such a person, but hey, is there really a limit to human stupidity?

Funny thing about going for broke: you might get it!

Broke I mean. They might break the team. Ha?
