SP Jon Lester – 108 IP, 88 K, 28 BB, 11 HR, 4.33 ERA, 3.62 FIP, 3.58 xFIP

Pedro Ciriaco had FOUR HITS yesterday, so of course he goes right back to the two spot! Never mind that those hits were a bunt, a bloop and two bleeders; he had FOUR HITS!!! Surely if we give him more plate appearances than Ryan Sweeney he’ll have FOUR MORE HITS!!!

This is actually how Bobby Valentine thinks. See also him continuing to bat Scott Podsednik in the leadoff spot despite the notable drawback that he is Scott Podsednik. And let’s take time out to note that Mauro Gomez is playing third again, despite the fact that he was so terrible there six years ago that teams stopped having him try to get better, and that he has been nothing but terrible there since being inserted into the lineup.

Will Middlebrooks is on the bench yet again, meaning that in all likelihood he will miss at least ten days with his hamstring injury. Call me crazy, but I think I would have liked to see someone else on the roster for those ten days and the five after them, rather than play shorthanded. I think that would have made more sense.
