Game 77 Preview: Cook vs. Noesi

Boy, these late games are “fun,” aren’t they? Fortunately the Mariners’ offense usually doesn’t mean the games go too far into the night. Imagine playing a team like the Yankees on the west coast.

1. Daniel Nava, LF .313/.429/.473
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B .267/.325/.400
3. David Ortiz, DH .308/.397/.623
4. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C .255/.305/.536
5. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B .268/.321/.409
6. Will Middlebrooks, 3B .302/.337/.541
7. Cody Ross, RF .278/.347/.568
8. Ryan Kalish, CF .226/.273/.258
9. Mike Aviles, SS .267/.287/.422

Stacking three lefties (or effective lefties; Salty is horrible from the right side) in a row in the middle kinda sucks, but there’s not much Bobby can do unless he wants to drop Adrian even further down. Can’t wait until Ellsbury or Sweeney gets back, too; Kalish looks way out of his depth.

Aaron Cook makes his third start of the year, and gets a very friendly opposing team against which to do it. As long as he doesn’t make any location mistakes, he should at least get a quality start.

Prediction: Cook looks like he should have been in the rotation from the start of the season (which he should have), and Hector Noesi looks like a guy who isn’t as good as Felix Hernandez. Sox win 5-2.
